This is a starter kit for a Helix suitable for OO gauge British Outline 2nd and 3rd radius curved track (Peco, Hornby or Bachmann)and has a track bed 135mm wide. It comes complete with 2 straight entrance/exit Ramps. It can be built either rising clockwise or anticlockwise.
Our Helix kits are laser cut from 6mm thick Lightweight Poplar ply, not MDF. Poplar ply being a lot more stable and longer lasting than other substrates. They come complete with M8 threaded rods, washers and nuts. All joints are fully supported.
The starter kit is for the first circuit and a half rising at approx 80mm (approx 3 5/32 inches) per circuit, so in total it will rise approx 120mm (approx 4 23/32 inches) in height. As you can see from the picture, you end up with 72mm from the top of the wooden track bed to the underside which is enough for clearance for steam, diesel and electric locos with Pantographs down, The loco pictures are on code 100 track on top of a 5mm foam bed.
The Inner circuit based on 2nd Radius curves of 438mm has a gradient of 1 in 34 / 2.9%.
The outer circuit based on 3rd Radius curves of 505mm has a gradient of 1 in 39 / 2.5%.
This pack comes with the following:
16x x 500mm Threaded Rods
12x 1/8 circle sections.
2x Straight sections.
12x Connecting bridges including 11x inner segment guides, 11x outer segment guides, 2x inner Straight to Circle guides, 2x outer Straight to Circle Guides.and 2 straight guides
16x M8 Steel threaded rods cut to approx length required and all required nuts and washers
Additional complete circuits are available with each circuit rising approx 80mm, so a starter kit + one circuit would give you a rise of 200mm, a starter kit and two circuits would give you a rise of 280mm and so on.
Additional 1/4 and 1/2 circuits are also available.
You will need a level surface are of 1250mm x 1250mm and basic tools (a drill, 2x 13mm spanners, spirit level) and wood glue.

NB: If you are going higher than the 500mm rods supplied, please call us to place your order rather than add this one so we can amend the order for 1000mm rods for a supplimentary charge.
